When Scottish innovation meets Swiss design
IKEA. Everyone knows them. A global powerhouse in design and DIY lifestyle. There aren’t many cities that don’t have one, and there aren’t many people who haven’t been in their behemoth warehouses. But with so much stock, how exactly do they keep their eyes on the ball? Tornado Storage
Every store has different needs and requirements though, and that is why IKEA Edinburgh turned to Tornado Storage Solutions. Tasked with increasing efficiency within their logistical pipeline, they have provided their services for almost 12 years.
Situated in Loanhead, Edinburgh’s IKEA store came to Muckle Hen, and asked us to make a film that sold the benefits of the Tornado system to other store managers.
We worked with staff from IKEA Edinburgh and Constructor UK to tell the story of the ‘Tornado Machine’. Filmed across six different countries, their objective was to outline the huge saving in space that the system could deliver. From this, other stores would then adopt this system as a means of fully integrated operational logistics.
To accomplish this, we created a distinct visual style for the piece that made use of split screen. By moving these split screen images in-and-out of screen we wanted to emulate the mechanical movement of the machine.
The finished film, which was distributed on DVD to all 300 IKEA stores, has had a huge impact on both IKEA and Constructor UK, who have on the back of it, been inundated with orders for the machine from store managers across the globe. Another success story.
