The water treatment works at Milngavie was the largest civil engineering project in Scotland when it was built. Its construction engendered huge concern amongst local people, politicians and environmentalists. The company needed to explain not only why Glasgow’s water needed this massive investment, but how they were going to ensure that they managed the project in a way that addressed everyone’s concerns.
Muckle Hen worked with Scottish Water to identify the key messages they needed to convey, then brought in Steve Coogan’s comedy writing partner, Neil MacLennan to write the story of Glasgow’s Water – past, present and future in a warm and engaging way. The resulting documentary – presented by that most unique of Glaswegian artists, George Wylie – successfully addressed the concerns of the audience whilst firmly positioning the construction project in the proud tradition of Scottish engineering feats of the past.
